AAPNZ 2009
Conference Venue
The 2009 AAPNZ conference will be hosted by Massey University on its Turitea Campus in Palmerston North, a campus renowned for its beautiful park-like setting of huge trees and attractive gardens. (campus map)
Palmerston North lies in the heart of the Manawatu and is the fourth-largest city on New Zealand's North Island. It has the wealth of facilities you would expect to find in a major city - yet it is compact, friendly and accessible.
Palmerston North's central North Island location is conveniently close to west coast beaches, and within easy driving distance to the Hawke's Bay wine region, skiing and snowboarding at Mt. Ruapehu, and New Zealand's capital city, Wellington.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available on campus in Matai and Totara halls for NZ $60.70 per night, bed and breakfast. To book accommodation in these halls, please download and complete the booking form, available here, and send the completed form to Ngaire Yong (email: N.Yong[at]massey.ac.nz; fax: +64 6 350 5675; post: Campus Living Villages NZ Ltd, Residential Services Office, Massey University, Private Bag 11-222, Palmerston North, New Zealand).
A range of motel, hotel and backpacker accommodation is also available within bus or walking distance of the university campus. The main road from Palmerston North City Centre to Massey University is called Fitzherbert Avenue and there are numerous hotels/motels on that stretch of road, which are all between 2km and 3km from campus. The following are those with websites I could find (closest to Massey listed first, closest to town last).
To find other accommodation not listed here, please try searching the Yellow Pages.
Travel to Palmerston North
Palmerston North is a short - under 2 hour - drive from Wellington, but the easiest way to travel into Palmerston North is to fly. Flights to Palmerston North are available from most New Zealand cities through Air New Zealand. A short taxi ride will then take you from the airport to either the city or the Turitea campus.
